Nighteen Century Condom Displayed in Amsterdam
A nearly 200-year-old condom, believed to have originated from a bordello, is now on display at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Thought to be made from the intestine of a sheep in 1830, it serves as a unique artifact related to 19th-century prostitution and sexual health. The condom features a drawing depicting a partially-clad nun pointing at three priests and includes the inscription "Voilà mon choix", meaning "This is my choice", which reflects an ironic commentary on celibacy. The museum has noted that only two such preserved items exist today, highlighting the usage of print art in various contexts during the 1800s. The condom was purchased at auction for around 1,000 euros and will be exhibited until the end of November.
